Welcome! I am Hairuo Fu (付海若), an isotope geochemist, planetary scientist, and paleomagnetist interested in the origins and evolution of planetary bodies. I am currently an Assistant Project Scientist at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), working with Peng Ni in the PTXRt Lab. Beginning in August 2027, I will join the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville as the Gerald D. Sisk Assistant Professor. I earned my B.S. in Geology from China University of Geosciences (Beijing) in 2016 and my Ph.D. in Isotope Geochemistry from Harvard University in 2024.

I combine high-precision measurements and numerical modeling to understand the behavior of elements and isotopes during high-temperature processes, with the goal of unraveling planetary evolution — including giant-impact events, mantle-crust formation, magma ocean-atmosphere interactions, and metal–silicate differentiation.

Some of my recent research focuses on:

  • Constraining the bulk chemical composition of the Moon.
  • Integrating geochemical and impact dynamical evidence to test Moon-forming giant-impact models.
  • Elucidating the thermal and compositional conditions of the proto-lunar disk using volatile and siderophile elements.
  • Investigating the compositional structure of the Moon’s primordial crust and mantle through geodynamic modeling.
